Title: The whipping boy
Author: Sid Fleischman
Language: french translation from English
Type: children's novel
Genre: adventure

1st release:
Publisher:
Length:

(got it probably at a secondhand book fair couple of years ago with the idea of whipping boys has something homoerotic--but no not in this one)

The blurb says the author was born in Brooklyn so i doubt the depiction is historically accurate, but whatever!
Jemmy is a whipping boy to a lazy, bratty prince Horace and hopes to get fired and go back to his old life as a rat catcher. But when the prince decides to run away he gets whipped--no pun intended--into going with him.

Funny enough, but i won't keep it

"Le souffre-douleur" ; comme on ne fouette pas les princes c'est un jeune bouc émissaire qui reçoit les punitions à sa place, soi-disant que ça lui fera éprouver des remords... ouais. Jusqu'à ce qu'il fugue, en étant trop bête pour se débrouiller tout seul.

Blind skateboarder creates 'world-first' adaptive skatepark: 'I've never had a place where I can skate with full confidence'

About seven years ago, he started dreaming of creating the world’s first adaptive skatepark right in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan.

Finally, the park is a reality.

Called “The Ranch,” the 5,000-square-foot skatepark is completely accessible, allowing both seasoned low-vision boarders to take it for a spin and newcomers to the sport to feel welcome.

Everyone should have access to opportunities for physical activity and creativity.

These are active communities in Dreamwidth from Spring 2025 . They include things I've posted, but only the active ones; the thematic posts also list dormant communities of interest. This list includes some communities that I've found and saved but haven't made it into thematic posts yet. This post covers J-Z.

See my Follow Friday Master Post for more topics.

Someone mentioned efforts to increase use of offal.  The much simpler way to get more people to eat organ meat is to present delicious recipes using it. This is easily accomplished by scouting cuisines that already use a lot of organ meat, such as soul food or some Asian cuisines. Use everything but the squeal!

Fandom events in 2025 be like:

>'Can I-?' Just have fun!! :) We're here to create! To enjoy ourselves! Or don't. I can't tell you what to do! :P As long as you make something vaguely completion-shaped, we'd love to see it! <3

This poem came out of the June 3, 2025 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from [personal profile] siliconshaman. It also fills the "comfort" square in my 6-2-25 card for the Pride Fest Bingo. This poem has been sponsored by [personal profile] librarygeek. It belongs to the Cuoio and Chiara / Marionettes threads of the Polychrome Heroics series.

This poem came out of the June 3, 2025 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired and sponsored by [personal profile] librarygeek. It also fills the "I'd rather eat cake." square in my 6-2-25 card for the Pride Fest Bingo. This poem belongs to the series Polychrome Heroics. It follows "A Reflection of Your Energy" and "Tomato Pie and Ice Cream," so read those first or this won't make much sense.

A picture of 4 raised tote planters in a row

About two years ago I was recommended a video about using storage totes to make a raised bed garden. I was actually in the process of cleaning up the house at that time, so I had a couple large totes that had been emptied out. My first try with them I made one and tossed some sunflower seeds in it, and they did fine. Last year I had two raised tote planters. This year I am expanding! I thought it would be fun to share how I set them up so that maybe you can try doing something similar in your garden! You should be able to source most of your supplies for this for cheap or free.

Supplies you will probably need )

I am really expanding on gardening using these this year. Originally I planned to only have 4 tote planters, but now I am up to 8. Although it may not be the prettiest looking setup, it will allow you to grow a decent amount for cheap in a small space.

Today is cloudy, warm, and damp.  It rained off and on yesterday and last night.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a few sparrows and house finches.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 6/5/25 -- I put out more food for the birds.  I've seen a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches, a mourning dove, and a fox squirrel.

EDIT 6/5/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.  This included putting a piece of mosquito dunk into the red birdbath.

EDIT 6/5/25 -- I walked around the yard a bit.  Everything is still pretty wet.

The 'Lemon Boy' tomato has green fruit.  :D

EDIT 6/5/25 -- I pulled weeds along the strip garden.

As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

from Leaves of Grass

Why, who makes much of a miracle?
As to me I know of nothing else but miracles,
Whether I walk the streets of Manhattan,
Or dart my sight over the roofs of houses toward the sky,
Or wade with naked feet along the beach just in the edge of the water,
Or stand under trees in the woods,
Or talk by day with any one I love, or sleep in the bed at night with any one I love,
Or sit at table at dinner with the rest,
Or look at strangers opposite me riding in the car,
Or watch honey-bees busy around the hive of a summer forenoon,
Or animals feeding in the fields,
Or birds, or the wonderfulness of insects in the air,
Or the wonderfulness of the sundown, or of stars shining so quiet and bright,
Or the exquisite delicate thin curve of the new moon in spring;
These with the rest, one and all, are to me miracles,
The whole referring, yet each distinct and in its place.

To me every hour of the light and dark is a miracle,
Every cubic inch of space is a miracle,
Every square yard of the surface of the earth is spread with the same,
Every foot of the interior swarms with the same.

To me the sea is a continual miracle,
The fishes that swim—the rocks—the motion of the waves—the
ships with men in them,
What stranger miracles are there?
